Wish I Were Wearing: Lace // Peplum // Neon

NYFW Fall 2013: Aristocats a.k.a Ladies Who Lunch

Feb 26, 2013

Adored St.John's dark glamour mixed with upper west side preppiness. The old hollywood glamour hair with the hints of fur looked classic and the leopard print shoes added edge.

Oscar de la Renta's collection is the epitome of ladies who lunch, he created the perfect tailored skirt suits for an afternoon out. The blouses showed the perfect hint of skin without overdoing it. And the gowns scream take me to the Met Gala darling!

Downton Abbey anyone? This Ralph Lauren collection makes me want to catch up on all the episodes I've missed so far. The beautiful velvets and tailored coats kind of make me want to read a Russian romance novel.

Must we talk about Monique Lhuillier's beautifully crafted dresses and gowns! The sparkle and lace makes me want to go to cocktail hour just to flaunt a gorgeous dress.

I wish I was invited to every award show especially the Oscar's so I can wear everyone of Zac Posen's gorgeous vintage inspired gowns.

The Jill Stuart reminds of a younger version of ladies who lunch, more like a Gossip Girl crowd. Love the lace inspired crochet dresses and the flower petal ones for spring time.

Metallics & Pastels at The Oscars 2013

Metallics:
Best Dressed: Naomi Watts in Armani Prive
Catherine Zeta-Jones in Zuhair Murad
 Halle Berry in Versace

Pastels:
Best Dressed: Anne Hathaway in Prada
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior
Charlize Theron in Dior

My favorites of the night and let me just say I would love that gown Naomi Watts is wearing in like every color of the rainbow, its just so stunning. NYFW Fall 2013: Modern Silhouettes

Feb 22, 2013

You'd expect crazy beautiful psychedelic and tie-dye prints from Proenza Schouler, but they used a simple color palette of black, white, and beige this season. What they lacked in color they made up for in their modern silhouettes. Loving the wrapped around multiple layer skirts and peplum inspired tops.

I love that Kimberly Ovtiz wasn't afraid to add bright colors to a fall collection. The asymmetrical draping and wrapping of fabric gives the the pieces a modern feel. So those the extraterrestrial inspired hair styles. Seriously adoring every dress in this collection.

Clean sleek silhouettes made up the Louise Goldin fall collection. I'm a but obsessed over the quilted cotton sweaters.

The DKNY collection just reminds me of New York City, classic yet still trendy garments. Adoring her take on the leather man's jacket with the color block fabric.

Mixed fabrics, jewel tone colors and sleek yet edgy silhouttes make up Narciso Rodriguez's fall collection.

On My Nook: Vain by Fisher Amelie

Feb 20, 2013

Amazing story ! Started off like an episode of gossip girl and 90210 but ended surprisingly beautifully. Sophie Price was the most selfish and vain person you could know but after having to serve a sentence in a country she never thought twice of because of her horrible past behavior, she becomes a warm loving and appreciative human being. Of course there is a great guy in this story but he's not your average guy because he too has a selfish past. At the beginning Ian can't stand Sophie's selfish ways but he grows to love her because she becomes a beautiful person on the inside rather then on the outside. This is an amazing story that makes you realize what you take for granted and opens your eyes up to the evil that is out there in the world. But most of all it teaches you that after any tragedy you may go through there is always hope and happiness in the end because the sun always comes out.

I don't want to spoil the story for you guys but to give a bit of background Sophie Price ends up being sentenced to volunteer in an orphanage in Uganda. In this particular orphanage they treat and help raise children affected by Joseph Kony's Lord of Resistance Army (LRA), which is an army that abducts, kills, and displaces people, specifically children. Kony creates his army by taking children from their families to join his army and if they refuse he cuts a limb so they can't go to the opposing army and usually these children's parents are killed. Invisible Children is an organization that helps these children with donations and  attracts attention from the media to hopefully one day catch Kony and his army so they can be tried by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

If you guys are interested in this organization and helping out please visit the Invisible Children website for more information. And if you'd like to read Vain by Fisher Amelie click this link to buy it.

P.S
Got a little emotional on the review but really this story will have analyzing your lifestyle and values.

Splurge or Save: Color block Boatneck Tee

Feb 18, 2013

I don't know if you guys remember this color block tee from J.Crew but when it first came out it sold like hot cakes. And now its back and I got myself a hot pink one and love it. I just love simple classic items with pops of colors to make it modern. Now, I'm actually considering getting the JCP one in lime green.

A Little Inspiration . . .

This quote says it all, all I ever want to do. I want to live life, meet new people, travel the world and see wonderful things happen. I love the way F. Scott Fitzgerald can some up so much in to such few words. The Great Gatsby is a great story if you guys want to read one of his books, plus the movie comes out in May and I can't wait the trailer looks so good, see below:

Fashion Film Friday: The Hunger Games

Feb 15, 2013

Hunger Games has got to be one of my favorite book series, but I must warn you not everyone can finish the third book in the series. If you like to read I do recommend this series if your not emotional when it comes to books. Plus, Katniss Everdeen is a bad ass, can't wait for the second movie to come out.

Weekly Guide 2.11.13

Feb 14, 2013

Watch: Just saw Warm Bodies this weekend and now I want to read the book. If any of you guys watch The Walking Dead or are into zombies movies or into apocalyptic movies this movie has a cute quirky spin on that concept. R the main zombie in the movie can't remember his name hence the name R, is slowly becoming human again by falling in love with Julie. Julie just so happens to be the daughter of the man organizing to have the zombies killed. R isn't the only zombie becoming human again, there are a bunch of others too and Julie wants to help them because she is slowly falling in love with R too.

Wear: It's been snowing and raining in New York lately so much it makes no sense trying to wear cute shoes because you're just gonna get your socks wet. My hunter boots have been my savior all week.

Read: Vain by Amelie Fisher is a book I must review for you guys real soon, its so freaking good, heart wrenching and eye-opening. Let's just say it starts off like an episode of Gossip Girl, you know rich spoiled girl who is only worried about seducing guys. But she has a reality check and is sent to work at an orphanage in South Africa where her world comes crashing down on her and she realizes what really is important in life.

Eat: Backed potato with cheese, chives, bacon and sour cream yum ! This has been my go to food this week. Its semi-healthy if I stop adding all that bacon and cheese but I can't help it. The ones at Wendy's are soooo good.

Drink: My new go to drink since I want to cut out soda from my life is Cranberry Juice. It's so good and refreshing as well as good for women's health.

Do: Today I'm going to be going to a special dance class they have at my gym called Bokwa. I must admit I am a bit scared but looking forward to it. Bokwa is a class where you draw letters and numbers with your feet while performing an energized cardio workout.

Listen: Gotye got a Grammy for record of the year for "Someone I Used to Know" and that is my song, been listening to it all week. My other favorite song on the Making Mirrors album is "I Feel Better".

Wish I Were Wearing: NYFW Fall 2013

Feb 13, 2013

So, if I were a fashion editor and had the privilege of going to fashion week this season, this is the outfit I would love to wear. I love that the blazer has two trends both floral and color block and that bag need I say more. The ankle books are simple but they have a cut-out in the back that give an edge. And skinny cigarette pants look good on anyone.

His & Hers Valentine's Day Ideas

I'm not really into Valentine's Day too much but I thought giving you guys a little guide for what to buy your significant other would be cool. Honestly, all I would ever want for Valentine's day is a HUGE box of Ferrero Rocher Chocolate because its the best chocolate in the world. I mean come on it has hazelnut inside a.k.a nutella, what more can a girl ask for. Oh and because I'm a bookworm I would love a Nook Barnes & Noble gift card for my most prized possession my nook. If you guys want to see what books I've read or I am currently reading head on over to my Goodreads page.

P.S
The Voluspa candle smells like heaven if you're into musky/sandwood inspired fragrances. And the YSL after shave as well smells like heaven on your boyfriend/fiance/husband/fling, if you catch my drift.

Love by Prabal Gurung for Target

Feb 10, 2013

Spring Spring Spring get here already ! This collection by Prabal Gurung for Target makes me want to start wearing all my spring dresses already. I love that the collection is mainly black, white with hints of neon yellow, some of my favorite colors. I am sooooo purchasing the Lace Overlay top and the Sweatshirt in First Date Print. How cute is it that he named the prints after romantic occasions. I must say this collection is perfect for dates and special occasions like meeting the parents.

Every time I see the video for the collection on television I get all gushy, I know I'm a sap but the video is adorable see it for yourself below:

Fashion Week Survival Kit

Feb 8, 2013

With this being Fashion Week in New York City and all I thought creating a fashion week survival kit would be more than appropriate. For those of you lucky ones attending this seasons festivities above are some must have items for fashion week.

First of all you need a camera so you can capture all the lovely street fashion you see as well as the fashion on the runway. I have the Nikon D3100 and I love it, the pictures are so crisp and clear and its an easy to use DSLR. And of course your iPhone, if you don't want to bring a camera because this takes great pictures as well. Besides you're going to need it to instagram, facebook, or tweet anything interesting you see. How cute is Kate Spade "But Chad" case though !, I have a sweet spot for pop art. If you're a book worm like me you carry your reader everywhere because you can read, go online, and take notes with it. Flats are a MUST! especially if you're going to wear heels all day. Dr. Scholls Fast Flats are simple, classic, and bendable so they can easily go in a corner of your bag. If you can maintain in heels all day, well god bless you because I sure can't, so to easy the pain Dr. Scholls Ball of Foot stickies are great.

A compact mirror duh! because you need to check if your Revlon Just Bitten lipstick is on right. If you have oily skin like me the e.l.f Shine Eraser sheets are perfect for touching up your face. When I don't have time to grab something to eat I always carry around Fiber One bars in Oats & Chocolate, they taste delicious no lie. Coconut water is also great for a pick me up, I've been meaning to try this one with pineapple from Naked because their juices are usually delicious.

On My Nook: Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks

Feb 5, 2013

I read this beautiful story about a month ago but wanted to share it with you guys now because the movie comes out next week on Valentine's Day. If any of you have read any of Nicholas Sparks books you know you shed a few tears on his stories. This is the man who created Noah ! hello from The Notebook, gotta love him. I don't know if I like the character Noah more or just Ryan Gosling, I'd say Ryan Gosling.

Safe Haven is a story of survival. Katie is a young woman running away from her abusive past and finally finds a safe haven to blend into in Southport North Carolina. Here she meets Alex a widower with two kids, who helps her confront her past and stop hiding. I don't want to give too much away because it really is truly beautiful how they help each other during their times of need and become support rocks for each other. I mean who doesn't love a knight in shinning armor, especially when he looks like Josh Duhamel. But yeah book is a great realistic read and I think the movie will be great too.

Run! Run! Run! With Style

Feb 4, 2013

Who said you can't wear cute sneakers to the gym? Now they come in every color and even in different prints. I kind of want all of these so I can match them to all my work out tops but that's a bit excessive, so I'm just gonna stick to a pair with a couple of colors. But I'm really loving the Nike Liberty one's with the floral print.

Fashion Film Friday: Silver Linings Playbook

Feb 1, 2013

Best Romantic comedy of the year with a dark twist right here. And I can't wait to hear Jennifer Lawrence's speech if she wins the Oscar because she's so refreshing and down to earth. I love that she doesn't take acting so seriously. Here's a little snippet of her February Vanity Fair issue:

"Not to sound rude, but [acting] is stupid," Lawrence told Vanity Fair. "Everybody’s like, ‘How can you remain with a level head?’ And I’m like, ‘Why would I ever get cocky? I’m not saving anybody’s life. There are doctors who save lives and firemen who run into burning buildings. I’m making movies. It’s stupid.’"
